49/12a-K4, K4z, K5 (Viking)

The Viking gas fields comprise a series of fault bounded structures each with its own gas-water contact. The Rotliegend Leman Sandstone Formation reservoir in the Viking field area comprises continental, fluvial and aeolian sediments deposited in the Southern Permian basin under hot, semi-arid desert conditions. The sequence comprises clean well sorted aeolian dune sandstones, locally argillaceous and less well sorted interdune and fluvial sandstones and poorly sorted and argillaceous sabkha sandstones. The reservoir section can besubdivided on the basis of facies. The sequence can be capped by a relatively thin 'Weissliegend Unit of probable reworked Rotliegend sandstone. The Weissliegend Unit generally forms a tight zone of cemented sandstones, but is not recognised in all wells. The wells were drilled in Q3 and Q4 2000 using the Ensco 80 jack-up drilling rig.

49/17-13z (Vixen)

The Vixen gas field lies between Viking E and Victor. The reservoir in the Rotliegend Leman Sandstone Formation comprises continental, fluvial and aeolian sediments deposited in the Southern Permian basin under hot, semi-arid desert conditions. The sequence comprises clean well sortedaeolian dune sandstones, locally argillaceous and less well sorted interdune and fluvial sandstones and poorly sorted and argillaceous sabkha sandstones. The production re-entry was successfully drilled in mid 2000 by the Ensco 80 jack-up drilling rig completing a 49deg sidetrack through the reservoir. The well was drilled in Q2 and Q3 2000 using the Ensco 80 jack-up drilling rig.

49/22-N, 49/22-N1, 49/22-N3, 49/22-N6 (Callisto North)

Callisto is a subsea tie back and part of the Jupiter gas field in the Southern North Sea. The reservoir in the Rotliegend Leman Sandstone Formation is compartmentalized by sealing faults and is composed mainly of aeolian dune and aeolian sandsheet facies with minor amounts of sandy sabkha and fluvial facies deposited in the Southern Permian basin under hot, semi-arid desert conditions. These were deposited in the Southern Permian basin under hot, semi-arid desert conditions. Wells were drilled in 1999 using the Ensco 92 jack-up drilling rig.

15/24b-W1, 15/24b-W1z (MacCulloch)

The MacCulloch field in the UK Central North Sea is located on the northern flank of the Witch Ground Graben and is a four-way dip closure at top Paleoceneover a deeper Mesozoic structure. The reservoir consists of Upper Balmoral Sandstones containing oil derived from Kimmeridge Clay Formation shales and sealed by shales belonging to the Sele Formation. The wells were drilled in Q2 1996 using the Drillstar semi-submersible drilling rig.
